I’ve never been one who would ever consider screenwriting as my life’s main goal. Through my time in theatre and filmmaking, it just seems to me that screenplays aren’t even remotely as respected as plays are. Songwriting is a craft. In my opinion, the craft can only get better. Whether it gets stronger because of new techniques or learning from your rough patches, songwriting builds on itself to create new ideas, stories, melodies, and emotions.
Saturday. 1:00am. Walmart
The fluorescent lights flicker over head. Late-night shoppers wipe their eyes and manhandle carts filled with miscellaneous late-night purchases. I’m leaning against a poultry freezer, watching the shopping zombies pass, and continuously checking my watch. We have somewhere we need to be.
